PC #83: The Old Town Square of Prague

Asia meets the World RR Gr #177

This is actually my first postcard from the Czech Republic, sent by Jana thru the Asia meets the World RR on the Postcrossing Forum.

I am proud to say that I have been in this place: The Historic Old Town Square of Prague. This is where tourists crowd as well, to join the “free” guided tours.

One of the most prominent buildings in the square is the Church of Our Lady Before Týn. It has been the main church of the city since the 14th century, and had witnessed much of the important events held in the square. The towers are 80 meters in height, and are asymmetrical. The reason for this is that the towers represent the male and the female, and that was an important feature of the architectural style at that time.

Another attraction in the square is the Astronomical Clock. Many people gather in front of the clock to hear it ring and change time. 😀

Jana, the sender, sent the card when the weather was “pretty cold” and the temperature was “-20 C”. I can tell that it can get, yes, super cold in Prague. And the weather can be crazy as well. I have experienced hail, snow, rain, and sunshine all in 3 days!

Impressive large stamp of a masterpiece by Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist, Alfons Mucha. The artwork is entitled: Zverokruh/ Zodiac. Thanks, Jana!

PC #82: Boys in retro

CZ – 136556

Here’s an official card from Guliver of Czech Republic, a “small and beautiful country in the heart of Europe”. I cannot agree more! I have been to Czech Republic and I can say it is really a wonderful country.

Well, I just assumed that the boys are wearing retro clothes. I’m not sure if it’s retro in general, or if it’s a special kind of fashion style in Czech Republic in the past. I also cannot tell if it’s a propaganda for something.

Beautiful stamps used. Thank you, Guliver!

PC #81: Jeskyně Výpustek (a painting by J. Fischer)

CZ – 167119

Here’s a gloomy yet nice art card sent from the Czech Republic by Petr. It features a  painting of one of the sections of the Výpustek Cave created by Josef Fischer in 1804 . This cave is now a tourist attraction, showcasing some military fortifications. (More info)

PC #12: Prague

CZ – 127774

I received this beautiful panoramic card in 2011. I am currently at my parents’ place and I happen to look at my old stuff. Guess what I have here? Hundreds of postcards! And since I just made this blog, I think it is only proper that I post the old cards as well, especially my favorites. 😉

Prague. One of the most amazing and scenic cities I’ve visited! I fell in love with Prague the first time I set foot on its soil last March 2015. Who would have thought that I’d manage to visit Prague? I only saw images of it on postcards before. Dreams do come true.

I particularly liked the contrast of the Old and New Town. I also managed to visit the UNESCO site of Kutna Hora outside the city. I’d love to go back! On this card is the Old Town, with the Vltava river, the famous Charles Bridge, the lesser town, and the Prague Castle. Any one visiting the city must see the castle at night. It’s magnificent!

Josef, the sender, wrote: “You can find here many architectural styles, good shopping, tasty food, unique beer and kind people.” I cannot agree more! 😉
